We were on the lake a couple of days this week and have seen the water temps go from 40 degrees up to 46 degrees over the course of a few days. This is a good sign that we are approaching prime long line trolling action.

The first week of February 2026 was not great as we only managed one good day one the water this past week but there were several slabs caught in the 12" to 15" range!

We all knew that it was going to happen at some point and this past week we got a triple whammy! Heavy Rains, High Winds & Frigid Temps. Up to this point we had a mild winter in terms of temps, wind and rain but that all changed last Friday.

January weather can be extremely frustrating with cold fronts and warming trends. This past week was no different we went from a couple of days of cold fronts into a nice warming trend but the damage had been done early in the week. We were blessed with a couple of nice days this past week with little to no wind and was able to get on the water and snag some of those Lake Allatoona crappie. The annual lake drawdown is really changing the landscape of the lake! The water level is down to almost 826', which is 14' down from full pool or 840'. This changes where you troll this time of year as the humps and points are exposed which means you have quite a bit more open water.

Trolling season is just getting started on Lake Altoona and it is only going to get better throughout the winter and into Spring! We had a couple of great days on the water this past week trolling for Lake Allatoona crappie! The first part of the week was good until the wind started kicking up which can be a major deterrent to long line trolling.

The first week of December was not very kind to the crappie fishing on Lake Allatoona! We got out a couple of days but the sudden drop in temperatures from last week made for sluggish, non-aggressive crappie. Once the temperatures level out and stabilize the trolling will be in full swing.

The weather was back in the 70's this week and was a great week for chasing slabs on Lake Allatoona. The trolling bite is starting to pick up with the water temps ranging from 55 - 60 degrees. The crappie are starting to school up and move around which is a good indicator it's time to put those trolling rods to work!

It's been a couple of weeks since we had a chance to put out a fishing report and to be honest August is not a thrilling time to be out on Lake Allatoona. Historically, at least for Crappie fishermen, August and September are really hit or miss due to the water temps being in the mid to high 80's.
