Allatoona Weekly Crappie Fishing Report:
The week before Christmas was a tough one, the weather is still not cooperating the way we would hope. We are still hampered by up and down weather, high winds and the rapidly changing water level due to last weeks rains. Last week the water level was 833' and by the end of this week it was trending to 829'. The 4' drop in water level has adversely affected the roaming crappie and that's all there is to it. The high winds kept us off the water until Thursday and we covered a lot of water looking for crappie. We looked at deep open water and as shallow as 4' but didn't have much luck finding schools or hungry crappie. We did see a few pods with 5-10 crappie in each pod but no major schools to report on. The crappie that we managed to catch were suspended at 6' - 8' in 10' - 12' of water but no real pattern to speak of. Thursday and Friday had around a 20 degree temperature change as a cool front made it's way into the area which seemed to have an adverse affect on fishing conditions. We only managed 5 crappie on Thursday as we covered a lot of water searching for activity of any kind. We caught our crappie using a 3/32nd oz. jig head to keep the jigs down around 10' to 12' of water trolling at .7 - .9 mph. We did switch to 1/24th and 1/32 oz. jig heads as we got into shallow water but no takers. We are hopeful for a better report the week of Christmas as the weather forecast looks to be a little more stable next week. We did get a decent report from Hunter Moore with Moore Outdoorz Guide Service that they had some luck casting to deep water structure and deep water docks. Hunter had some happy clients with a couple of 2lb crappie this past week. Glad to see someone was able to catch some finicky crappie and good sized slabs at that! Lord willing Team Red Rooster will bring you another report next week! We now have a years worth of fishing reports archived on the site. Be sure to check out the archives for December 2023 and see what we were doing this time last year!

Verse of the Week: And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. ~ Matthew 1:21.
Joseph and Mary were both instructed by God through angels to name the child miraculously conceived Jesus (Matthew 1:21; Luke 1:31). The angel specifically told Joseph why they were to name Him Jesus: “You are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21, emphasis added). Jesus means “Yahweh saves” or “Yahweh is salvation.” It is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew name Joshua. Jesus did not come to save the Jews from political oppression or social ills or wrong thinking. His mission in coming to earth was to save His people from their sins. Courtesy of gotquestions.org.
