Allatoona Weekly Crappie Fishing Report:

We are right on the cusp of some solid Lake Allatoona crappie fishing action! The overnight temps have been on the rise as well as the day time temps which should continue to warm the water temps. This past week the water temps had risen to 46 if not more in certain areas. We are looking for the 48 to 50 degree water temps which should get the crappie a little more active. Another thing that is occurring is that the water clarity has really cleared up over the last week. Water clarity is clear to light greenish brown stain depending on the area of the lake. This is a typical February cycle and if we do not get a large downpour we will be in for some good fishing in the next couple of weeks. The last two years we have gotten heavy rains in the middle of February that raised the lake 4' to 6' in a couple of days. Hopefully that doesn't happen this year. One thing to note is that so far in 2026 the lake has been at it's lowest (825') since 2021 (828') this time in February.

Crappie: We were on the lake a couple of days this week and have seen the water temps go from 40 degrees up to 46 degrees over the course of a few days. This is a good sign that we are approaching prime long line trolling action. We are seeing crappie anywhere from 15' to 4' of water in and around the mouths of creeks, creek bends and on flats. We are covering a lot of water looking for schools and roamers with a mix of 1/32nd, 1/24th and 1/16th oz. jig heads. The areas that we focus on this time of year is Kellogg Creek, Owl Creek, S-Turns & The Little River Area. Tanyard, Clark and Stamp Creek are also good areas to troll this time of year. With the water warming up you are only days away from some prime trolling action! Our go to colors for light stained water are Sour Grape, Lemonade, 'Lectric Chicken, Green Glimmer, Black/Blue & BlueGrass. There are other colors that we use during the month of February and you can see our article "The Best Crappie Jig Colors For Lake Allatoona In February" for the complete list. You want to use anything that is bright and will stand out when fishing this type of water during this time of year. We also believe that it helps to use a bright jig head such as pink, chartreuse, orange and glow white. Red Rooster Custom Baits is your "Long Line Trolling Authority" for all things long line trolling for crappie. If you have questions about when, what and where give us a call or shoot us an email. We make custom jig heads, under spins and we can color match any jig color that you want or need. We love talking about crappie fishing so we are here to help.
