Allatoona Weekly Crappie Fishing Report:

This past week was slim pickins' after the rains and the cool front that blew in at the beginning of the week. The rains came in and in a matter of 48 hours the lake rose 3.5'. With the rain comes a rapid rise in lake level, water clarity changes to muddy to heavy stain and an influx of trash and debris making it almost impossible to long line troll for a couple of days. After a few days things return to normal and we are able to get back on the water. Looking at the upcoming forecast with the temps hitting 80 degrees by the weekend that muddy water will warm up quick! When the water starts warming to that 58 degree mark we will start trolling shallow using 1/24th and 1/32nd oz. jig heads as the crappie will start moving shallow and ready to feed for the upcoming spawn. Start working the flats and creeks for early spring crappie action! Remember when the water temps rises the crappie will get active and we like to start trolling the paddle tail baits like the Kic'n Chic'n and the Kic'n Chic'n XL in that warmer water.

Crappie: The rain and the cool front didn't do us any favors this past week. It was slow going and we struggled against the muddy water and trash in the water. The winds came in a helped blow the trash to the bank and by the middle of the week and we were able to start finding some active fish. When the water turns muddy make sure you are trolling bright solid colors as they are more visible in the muddy to stained water. Make sure you also troll a jig with some orange in muddy water...don't know why it works but orange is a stand out in muddy Allatoona waters. Our top colors in muddy water are Cajun Chicken, 'Lectric Chicken, Tannic Flo Orange, Flo Pink Pepper, Bubble Gum. If the sun is high over head make sure you try something with gold flake like Tre's Gold or Gold Digger. If the time is right...that gold flake seems to trigger some strikes. We are trolling 1/24th oz. and 1/32 oz. jig heads any where from 10' to 6' as the crappie will start moving shallow in the warming water. When that water temp hits 55+ it is go time for crappie to start moving shallow...by the time it hits 58 and rising it will be on fire muddy water or not. Troll light jig heads with paddle tail crappie jigs between .7 and 1 mph in shallow muddy water should be the ticket for the next few weeks. March is the premiere long line trolling month for catching crappie on Lake Allatoona! Grab some Red Rooster Crappie Jigs and put 'em in the water! Good luck out there and we hope this report blesses you in some way and helps you catch more Allatoona crappie!

Our go to colors for muddy to heavy stained water are Lemonade, 'Lectric Chicken, Black & Blue, Black & Chartreuse, Flo Pink Pepper & Bubble Gum. Now if the sun pops out on that muddy to stained water we switch to reflective colors like Tre's Gold, Green Glimmer and Mardi Gras. There are other colors that we use during the month of March and you can see our article "The Best Crappie Jig Colors For Lake Allatoona In March" for the complete list. You want to use anything that is bright and will stand out when fishing this type of water during this time of year. We also believe that it helps to use a bright color jig head such as pink, chartreuse, orange and glow white. Red Rooster Custom Baits is your "Long Line Trolling Authority" for all things long line trolling for crappie. If you have questions about when, what and where give us a call or shoot us an email. Red Rooster makes custom jig heads, under spins and we can color match any jig color that you want or need. We love talking about crappie fishing so we are here to help. We also do a Facebook Live most Friday nights unless something comes up.

Verse of the Week: Jesus then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. Jesus spoke plainly about this...~ Mark 8:31-32.

It's hard to believe that we are already in March, Spring is right around the corner and we are a month away from celebrating Easter or "Resurrection Morning". It is never too early to start thinking about what occurred on the first Easter morning which was our Savior defeated sin and death for all eternity by walking out of the tomb. This was not an accident, this was not a surprise. In Mark 8:31-32, Jesus spoke plainly about what was going to happen. Jesus laid out the entire plan beforehand. If you thought Jesus was caught off guard the night he was arrested in the garden...think again...the crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection was necessary to pay our sin debt and restore our sin severed relationship with our Heavenly Father. A Heavenly Father who loves us so much that He prepared a sacrifice on our behalf. Have you accepted His free gift of salvation through Jesus?
