Allatoona Weekly Crappie Fishing Report:
The wind kicked up a good bit this week but we were still able to net a few Allatoona slabs during the morning and late evening! November is in full swing and the crappie are getting active but we are still waiting on the cooler temps that usually come in around the mid to late November. Once the water temps drop below 65 we expect to get into trolling hot and heavy throughout winter/spring. This week we are still seeing crappie holding tight to brush, structure and docks. We have yet to see roaming schools of crappie in the creeks or open water. This will happen when the water temperature cools...and it could happen within a week if we get a prolonged temperature swing. We got out on the water early in the week and had good luck targeting brush or structure in the 18' - 20' range. We saw schools of crappie suspended in the 10' to 12' above the brush. We were able to net a few good slabs casting a Dagger in the Smoke Break test color, UV Shad and BlueGrass on a 1/24th oz. jig head. We went to a 1/24th oz. jig head in the evening as it seemed to match the size and fall rate the crappie were keying in on. The crappie were holding tight to cover and we had to be patient as they were not aggressive or chasing the jig very far. Once again the water temp is not quite where it needs to be to fire these crappie up for winter! Hunter Moore of Moore Outdoorz Guide Service had some good days on the water this past week casting to brush and docks. Hunter caught several good slaps casting a Red Rooster Dagger in the Gray Ghost color on a 1/16th oz. jig head. Until next week, keep your eye on the lake level and water temperature as November is the transition month into the fall/winter trolling season...the crappie will be on brush one day and in open water the next! Lord willing Team Red Rooster will bring you another report next week! We now have a years worth of fishing reports archived on the site. Be sure to check out the archives for November 2023 and see what we were doing this time last year!
