Allatoona Weekly Crappie Fishing Report

The first week of October was not what we expected due to the heavy rains from Hurricane Helene. Lake Allatoona rose a whopping 7 feet in 3 days and peaked around 842.52'. This wreaked havoc on the lake as you can imagine with trash, debris and silt. The plan was to get the trolling rods out when the lake hit 835' but that plan is going to be pushed back at least 1-2 weeks since the lake is back up to full pool (840'). We didn't get to fish a lot this week due to the lake conditions. We got out on Wednesday evening for a couple of hours and were able to pick up some small crappie on brush piles casting Red Rooster Daggers in Splatter Back, BlueGrass & Motor Oil Red with either a 3/32 oz. or 1/16th oz. jig head depending on the wind. We did notice that there are some crappie starting to roam in open water which means that trolling season is right around the corner. We caught a few small crappie casting to roaming crappie using forward facing sonar. The crappie that we saw roaming were active and would bite a jig if you got it close. Again, this plays well for long line trolling in a couple of weeks. Other than that, not much fishing activity to report this past week. Lord willing Team Red Rooster will bring you another report next week! We now have a years worth of fishing reports archived on the site. Be sure to check out the crappie report archives for October 2023 and see what we were doing this time last year! On a serious note, let's continue to pray for many folks affected by Hurricane Helene it is a real mess in places and our hearts go out to our neighbors during this time.

Verse of the Week: I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber; ~ Psalm 121: 1-3
