Allatoona Weekly Crappie Fishing Report:
We broke out the trolling rods this past week on Lake Allatoona to test the waters and landed a few nice Allatoona crappie! With the water levels dropping and the lower temperatures the water temperature was at 73 first thing in the morning. Per our records, the water temperature is 4-5 degrees lower than what it was this time last year. If the weather cooperates we COULD BE in full blown trolling mode by October! It all depends on the weather and how cool the nights get in October but we are getting excited to say the least. A good rule of thumb for determining water temperature is to add the High and Low temperatures, then divide by 2 (High + Low/2 = Average Water Temp) and you should have a pretty good idea as to what the average water temperature is before you hit the lake. We like to troll 4 different styles (Red Rooster Talon 2.0, Kic'n Chic'n, Slab Dragon & Small Fry) in a variety of colors until we figure out what works best. We were using 1/16th and 1/24th oz. jig heads on 6lb test tied on with a loop knot. We started trolling in mouths of creeks at .7 - .9 mph to mid creek and made our way back to the mouth making wide sweeping turns. We caught some in open water as well as over the tops of known brush piles and structure. We saw crappie suspended in a range of 6' to 14' of water. When you determine the depth of the crappie, you may need to change your jig head size or boat speed to get those jigs in the strike zone. As the water continues to cool, the crappie will start getting more aggressive and more active. Keep your eye on the temperatures because fall trolling season is about to be in session! Our top styles and colors this week were: #1 Producer(s) were the Red Rooster Slab Dragon in the 'Lectric Chicken color & Small Fry in the 'Lectric Chicken color, then the Red Rooster Kic'n Chic'n in the Jive Turquee - Chartreuse color and had a couple on the Talon 2.0 in Bubblegum and Kic'n Chic'n in Lemonade. We had a great day on the water cuttin' up, enjoying the weather and good fellowship. Lord willing Team Red Rooster will bring you another report next week!

Verse of the Week: He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. ~ Colossians 1:15-17
