Allatoona Weekly Crappie Fishing Report

The first part of the week we had some good luck trolling over brush piles and casting to brush piles before the rain and wind came in the middle and end of the week. We caught a few aggressive 12" and 13" Allatoona crappie that came charging out of the brush and jumped all over our jigs. This is a good sign as the water is cooling down and they are about to start roaming and chasing jigs! We trolled Monday and managed 13 nice crappie as we trolled over brush. Pappy's Magic Slab Dragon caught the most then June Bug Kic'n Chic'n, Blue Glimmer Small Fry and Blue Glimmer Slab Dragon caught a few as well. The water level is still at 834' so brush and structure are still in the 12' - 18' range. We were using 1/16th oz. jig heads at .7 mph which put our jigs in the 6' - 7' range and picked up the crappie suspended over the brush piles. We mainly fished main creeks hitting brush, stumps and humps...we did see a few open water crappie but they are not quite ready to roam too far from structure just yet. That will be changing quick as the weather gets cooler and the water temps follow. We got a good report from Hunter Moore from Moore Outdoorz Guide Service that the crappie were more active this week than last and as a result he had some very happy clients! Hunter was focused on casting to brush and on deep water docks where they caught several keeper crappie using a Watermelon Red Dagger and a Gray Ghost Dagger on a 1/16th oz. jig head. One of our pro-staff members had real good luck using two of our newly released jig heads! The Red Rooster - Crappie Hover Jig and the Red Rooster 3/32 oz. Pro Style Jig Head was on fire casting to medium to deep water brush piles. The Hover Jig has taken the Bass world by storm so we figured why not make a Hover Jig for Crappie! The 1/16th oz. Crappie Hover Jig paired with either a Small Fry or Slab Dragon works perfectly when casting to brush and keeping it just above the suspended crappie...dead stick the jig and then a little twitch was all it takes to draw a strike! The 3/32nd oz. jig head is perfect for getting the jig down quick to deep brush, throwing in the wind or trolling for deep suspended crappie in the 10' - 12' range. All in all Team Red Rooster had a great week on the water before the high winds came in mid to late part of the week. Lord willing Team Red Rooster will bring you another report next week! We now have a years worth of fishing reports archived on the site. Be sure to check out the archives for November 2023 and see what we were doing this time last year!
