Allatoona Weekly Crappie, Shellcracker & Bluegill Fishing Report:
The first week of December was not very kind to the crappie fishing on Lake Allatoona! We got out a couple of days but the sudden drop in temperatures from last week made for sluggish, non-aggressive crappie. Once the temperatures level out and stabilize the trolling will be in full swing.
Crappie: Unfortunately there is not much to report on this week due to the cold front and wind. We did get out on the water a couple of days but there just wasn't a lot of activity. This is common in December, especially the first part of the month as the weather is transitioning from late fall into winter. We love this time of year, sure it's cold but the lake is wide open and the long line trolling can be fantastic once you locate some schools. There are a lot of singles and doubles in addition to schools this time of year. The best place to be is in and around the creeks, creek bends, points and flats in close proximity to creeks. They could be in 8' - 10' of water or they could be in 30' of water, you just need to drop the trolling motor put several jig colors out with a mix of 1/16th or 3/32nd oz. jig heads and troll at speeds of .5 - .9 mph until you hang into something. You can always adjust your troll speed to speed up or slow down to change the depth of your jigs. Now this may sound complicated for crappie fishing but it's not bad at all once you get a few trips under your belt. If you need any help or advice feel free to reach out to us at Redroosterbaits.com and we will help you get started! That's why we do these reports for the love of crappie fishing and to help you become a better crappie angler! We expect the trolling bite to only get better and better the coming weeks. Check back weekly for updated reports! Lord willing we will continue to have good reports as we move deeper into winter! Keep an eye on your electronics...sidescan and downscan also 2D are your friends right now. This is the best way to find schools of crappie and new structure. One of the cool things about trolling is that you are covering a lot of water and if you keep your eyes peeled you will find new areas and structure that you were not aware of. This is a time for recon...if you don't catch fish hopefully you will find new areas that you didn't know were there. While the lake levels are down make mental notes of areas that are exposed that will be surefire locations for fish in the spring when the water levels come back up.
If you don't know what colors to choose check out our Combo Packs, this will save you a lot of time with proven stained and clear water colors. Be sure to check out the archives for December 2024 and see what we were doing this time last year!

Verse of the Week: But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. ~ Galatians 4:4-7.
